Information > How we edit
Everyone has the right to be understood
Whatever you write, whenever you write it, we’re here to make sure that you’re understood. Regardless of the time of day or your location in the world, we can help you to get the best out of your writing.
Editing
At My Editing Co., we edit according to a simple goal: polishing and perfecting your writing so that your ideas and thoughts are as clearly and elegantly expressed as they can possibly be. To put it more simply, we want you to be understood.
To do this, we focus mainly on your wording and structure: rewording and reorganising your sentences and paragraphs to make them as clear and eloquent as possible; revealing your ideas in their best possible light. While doing this, we also make sure that your entire document is free of spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors, and is composed using a consistent and expressive formatting and referencing style. We also make sure that your tense and terminology are consistent throughout. To get a better idea of how we edit, have a look at some of the examples we’ve included below.
Beyond our goal of polishing and perfecting your writing to reveal your ideas in their best possible light, we’re also completely at ease with addressing any particular requirements you might have. We’re happy, for example, to make sure your document is in UK, US or Australian English (or any other form of English for that matter!), and we’re equally at ease with any referencing style – whether APA, Harvard, MLA or any other – you might require. Quite simply, our goal is to perfect your document according to the standards you require.
It is worth stressing at this point that as our goal is to reveal your ideas as clearly and as eloquently as possible, we always work to preserve your ideas and content. That is, we will not change what you’re trying to say: we will only help you to say it clearly.
The end result
When we’ve finished editing, we’ll return two versions of your final document to you. One of these is the ‘Advice’ version. This version shows the changes that have been made to your original document and provides an advice letter describing those changes and any suggestions your editor might have. The other version is the ‘Edited’ version, which has the changes accepted and is ready for printing out.
Examples
To better show our editing process, we’ve included a couple of examples that show the original, the ‘Advice’ and the ‘Edited’ versions.
