First of all, a bit about us
We’re an online editing business. We rapidly edit a variety of documents – student essays and theses, job applications and advanced research papers – to an outstanding level of quality and for a reasonable price. You can find out more about how we operate on the pages of our site designed specifically for our customers (Information), but basically, customers submit documents for editing to our website, and these documents become available for our editors to select, edit and then return to the customers, all via the site.
Where our advertisers come in is in getting our target customers to visit our website. We’re pretty confident in our site and our editors, so once they’re there, we know they’ll receive the high quality editing they’re after. We just need advertisers to get them to the site in the first place.
How to do it
Here’s the beauty of the job: it’s up to you. You’ve probably already flicked down to our section below that shows how much our advertisers are paid (if not, have a quick look now, we’ll still be here), but basically, our advertisers are paid a direct portion of every editing job that comes in from their specific area. That is, every time a job comes in from a student at x university, a portion of the fee for that job goes directly to the advertiser we’ve got working in that place. What’s important is that each individual advertiser is completely in control: if you advertise for us, you choose when and where and how to advertise. After all, you know more about your university and its students than we do! What we want our advertisers to do is come up with innovative and catchy ideas (make sure they’re legal!) to get people to use our editing services.
How to do it ideas!
We thought we’d write down a couple of ideas for you to get the picture. While you’re reading through them, have a think about how long they might take and how much they might cost… And remember those figures when we come to discuss how much you’d be paid below.
Simple:
Print or photocopy some of the A4 flyers we’ve designed, and post them up around your uni – in the library above the photocopiers, on noticeboards, outside the English language teaching building or at the bus stop. Or on the back of toilet doors, if your building isn’t too disreputable.
Cheap:
Grab some chalk and write a message on blackboards or on the pavement.
Cheapx2:
Print some stickers with our logo (or write on some post-it notes with a pen) and… stick them somewhere.
Traditional:
Buy some ad space in your student newspaper.
Network:
Find all the blogs, MySpace pages and web forums people at your uni use, and bring My Editing Co. into the conversation.
Viral:
Tell people how good My Editing Co. is, and let other people overhear you.
Oddball:
Get a jumper knitted for your dog with the My Editing Co. logo, then carry your dog in your handbag to lectures. Or maybe not.
Extravagant:
Hire a skywriter!
Wasteful:
Hire two skywriters!
Or, come up with your own ideas – after all, you’re the marketing genius! (Just keep it legal, and don’t, as they say, bring the business into disrepute).
The good stuff – how much you’ll be paid
Here it is, as simple as it comes: you’ll be paid 10% of each editing job that comes in from your university, college or institution. Have a look at our prices (Prices) to see what that means. (The other 90% goes to the people who edit the document and to site administration).
This, of course, doesn’t give you a fixed number that you know will appear in your bank account at the end of each month. In fact, we can’t actually give you such a number, because what you’ll be paid will vary directly by how much effort you put in and how successful you are.
What we can do is give you some estimates. So, just for argument’s sake, we can guess that the average editing job will be around US$240. This’ll vary, of course, but it helps for this example. Of that average editing job, US$24 would go to the advertiser who brought that job in. Now, if you were to bring in 30 customers in a month, that’d be US$720, straight to you. Not bad for the price of a packet of chalk, a photocopy card and a couple of hours work!
Now, here’s where it gets even better: word of mouth. We’re so confident in our editing that we expect all our customers to come back for more – and if they’re not the sort to hide their secrets, tell their friends as well. What this means for you is that your advertising can have a flow-on effect. Say you bring in 25 customers in your first month, it’s easily possible that 35 will come in over the next. Even better, say in the third month you’re snowed under with your own essays and exams (or real snow) and you don’t have much time to advertise for us. This doesn’t mean that in that month no customers will get their essays edited – in fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if almost as many did as the month before. Basically, over time your marketing work will build up. This could mean that in one month, you do no work, but still get paid US$720 – not bad at all!
You must be thinking, ‘what’s the catch?’ There’s no catch. The more you work – the smarter you work – the more customers we get and the more you get paid. Aside from your tax responsibilities – which are your own, so check with the tax office in your country – it’s as simple as that.
